Health Tip: avoid what you can, because there's a lot that you can't

I hear so many people say things like, "eating organic is a waste of money and a scam". (or using natural products etc) But my personal opinion is that we need to avoid as many toxins as we can because there are so many we can't avoid.

Unfortunately our government isn't strict about food and skincare ingredients. Basically their theory is that is a tiny amount is safe they will approve it. Which in simple terms is true. Our bodies are amazing and can handle a lot. The problem is the accumulative effect. And the bigger problem is we are being bombarded with toxins we cannot avoid. In our air, water and many foods including vegetables. Even the furniture, carpeting and other materials in your home are toxic.

When eating conventional foods, especially processed foods, you are ingesting tons of toxic chemicals. The worst part is they don't have to be listed on the ingredients list. Toxic chemicals can be used in the processing and not have to be listed. Then there's the stuff they do list! ANY artificial flavoring and coloring is extremely toxic to your body. It may not seem like it could possibly be harmful but even in small amounts things like Red 40 (may also appear on food labels under various names, such as FD&C Red No.40, FD&C Red No.40 Aluminum Lake, and CI Food Red 17) or saccharin, aspartame, acesulfame potassium (acesulfame-K, or Ace-K), sucralose, neotame, and advantame are extremely toxic to your body. They build up in your organs and can cause all sorts of health issues. Ingredients like these are the main reason for inflammation and pain. They can cause major digestive and hormonal imbalances. And if you have any other health issues, especially autoimmune issues, they are literally a danger to your life. The simplest way to avoid toxins in your food is to eat organic and only buy products that clearly state "no artificial flavor, color, sweetener" etc. and GMO free. The less you eat processed food, the easier it is to avoid toxins in your food. Obviously when you eat out you don't have as much control. That's why it's so important to eat as healthy as you can at home. My best tip to avoid junk food, don't have it in your home. And having kids is not a reason to have toxic junk food in your house. It should be even more reason to not have it in your home! You should be avoiding toxic junk food for your children as much as possible. Get the healthier options for them. Teach them healthy eating habits. You know when they are out with friends they are going to grab a bag of Doritos. So don't have it in the house where they are eating all the time. Explain to them why you don't have those foods in your home. There are lots of healthier options for junk foods that will still be fun for your kids to eat without the negative effects of the toxic chemical foods.

Another way that people get overly toxic is through the skin. Everything you put on your skin absorbs into your bloodstream. Lets talk about one of the most used toxic chemicals in skincare, fragrance, (perfume, parfum, scent, musk, essence, etc) Fragrances in skincare products can contain toxic chemicals, including phthalates, carcinogens, endocrine disrupters, and neurotoxic chemicals. These chemicals can cause skin allergies, rashes, dermatitis, migraines, and respiratory problems. They can also be harmful to people with sensitive skin or chronic inflammatory skin conditions like rosacea or eczema. A tiny amount of one product may not be harmful to a healthy person. But honestly, who only uses a tiny amount of one product. Every product you apply to your body gets into your bloodstream and can effect your health. Even in the shower. So many people think that products like shampoo or body wash are ok because they are rinse off products. But did you know that things absorb into the bloodstream through your feet instantly? So as you stand in the shower rinsing these toxins off your body, your feet are absorbing them into your body. Then you step out of the shower and put on lotion, and one or more facial products and hair products. All of this adds up.

I'm not trying to stress you out and make you want to throw everything away and feel freaked out about the products you have. You can slowly make changes. Every time you remove one toxic item from your life you are improving your health.

I am not 100% toxin free. But I do avoid as much as I can so I don't have to stress about the things I can't avoid (or choose to not avoid). Skincare was one area I felt was easy for me to make better choices. So many years ago (20ish) I started choosing better products. And as I have learned more about ingredients I continued to search for cleaner options. The problem I was finding was the cleaner the product the more expensive they got. So when I began making products one of the most important aspects for me was to make them affordable. Since I don't ever have plans to take my company to huge levels I am able to keep my prices down. Most of the facial products will last 3-6 months, depending how much you use. Even if you use ALL the facial products (Ultimate Bundle) and use them up in 3 months, (which you won't) it would cost less than $57 per month. I was paying that for just one product!! My suggestion is always, replace products as you need to. You don't have to throw away your whole basket of skincare products (we all that under the sink right?? LOL).

Please feel free to email me any time if you need advice on products. Not just skincare. I am happy to look into other products for you!
